Gay Marriage (part 2)

Our conversation with Kate Kendell, Executive Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights was amazing! For me, the biggest take away is that we've got to get the word out about the  ballot initiative in November.  If enacted it would ban marriage between same-sex couples by having it written into the California Constitution that only marriage between a man and a woman is allowed. This would really be it people. There's no appealing it. It would be part of the California Constitution and it would be final. Kate explains it all here with more expertise and passion than I ever could:

Oh my god, when this page loads it sometimes plays the first couple seconds of all the videos at once or something and you hear a chorus of "so" coming out of my mouth. I start every video with "so."  ugh, gag me with a spoon. gotta work on that.

Mahwage

It is impossible for me to even think the word marriage without hearing the opening line of the wedding scene in The Princess Bride. That movie is so seared into my brain. I'll never get through my own wedding without laughing if I ever have one.

So yeah, mahwage, why do it? After yesterday's gay marriage post, a few folks responded with videos about their feeling that marriage in general is a faulty institution for all couples regardless of sex so that seemed like a natural conversation for today.

Please note that Yanis (glagou) proposed to me in this conversation thread so now I have to actually consider this question seriously. The pros:  He has a gold and ruby engagement ring, a Vespa and an apartment in Leon. The cons:  Where is Leon?

Au Revoir Seesmic du Jour!

We take a drink of something pretending to be champagne to toast the season finale of Seesmic du Jour.  We toast not only the star of the show, Loic le Meur, but we toast the spirit of the show and in doing so we are truly toasting our dear Whit Scott. In my short time here, I've seen him pull comedy gold out of Fatboy stuffing. He is a great talent this kid and I only hope he hires me when I come calling. To Whit!

Gay Marriage

Last time I was at City Hall was Oct. 26, 2003 for the big  "Stop the War Against Iraq" march. Unfortunately, we're still fighting the battle to end the war. So glad to be visiting City Hall under celebratory circumstances this time.

Polar Bear Recap

Another show with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), this one about polar bears. People, i just can't tell you how this concerns me. Yes, the Bush Administration has granted the polar bear threatened species status but without honoring the protections that usually go along with that status. They want to keep the door open for drilling for oil. With gas prices soaring, they'll be at it again in no time....pushing to drill off Alaska. It's so important to support the efforts of the NRDC and Greenpeace in this cause.
